Newbie here!! I have a 73' 6-250. I wanted to upgrade the carb, intake and distributor. I preferred from classic inclines, but I found out today they are closed. What should I upgrade to for performance?
To a V-8. Nothing....dollar for dollar......will make more performance than upgrading to a V-8. A car, intake (no such thing on a 250-6) and a distributor will do nothing unless you do lots of other work as well.
It'd be nice if Ford's small 6cyl had a upgradable head/intake, but in the interest of cost and the fact anyone that wanted performance bought a V8, leaves most of the the inline 6 cyl wanting... Sure there are guys that just had to show it can be done, but those are mostly re-engineered pieces with custom heads...
been talking with these guys and this kit will work with the 250 http://www.shop.cliffordperformance.net/Ford-200-68-Combination-68F200.htm or the complete everything kit http://www.shop.cliffordperformance.net/68-Ford-240-300-Combination-68F300.htm
Everything kit does not fit the 250. I had a Weber set up on my 250. Had to modify the adaptor plate to correctly align the carb to the throttle cable and gain hood clearance. Air cleaner was still very tight. Had to use one with clips rather than the Weber bolt on one. This kit looks like it has the element but no housing. The headers use to drag on every speed bump. Performance was not worth the price. Should have just done the V8. Years later, I did. Micah
That second kit is for the 240/300 6cyl, totally different engine than a 250, no interchangeable parts... First kit is for the shorter 200, probably require a cowl hood for use with 250(if not the 200 as well)...
Thank you for all the help everybody!!! I do want to switch to a v8. But I'd rather save up for a bit and get everything crated or find one already in a maverick. The car I own is lacking power.... Badly. So, I bought the Weber 32/36, fuel regulator, 2 to 1 adapter, duraspark ii kit and distributor. I swapped out my fuel pump and radiator(had a leak) today. Hopefully she gets better. I think my issues with power may be coming from my distributor timing. Everything should get swapped out in the next two weeks. If it's not fixed.... On to compression test dun dun dunnnnnnn!
Classic Inline is still selling parts but not online, see http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=73807
I was hoping for that answer. I just swapped mine yesterday. I bought some chromed fuel hoses...... Shot fuel everywhere..... Quality product. Just waiting on the parts to come in. I know Mavericks look odd but how do y'all think this will look? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BHXMKC/ref=ya_st_dp_summary
