    Dan,

    I thought the name came from the old Maverick TV series (1957-1962), where James Garner (whom everyone kept calling Gardener), played a gambler and con-man in the old west. "Maverick is a legand of the West." I'm old enough to remember watching that show when it was new. :cool:
