finally got the mav on the road. Hit 60mph and my engine started losing and power in a pulsing sort of way if that makes sense. Now it does that at lower speeds after about 5-10 minutes of driving. I was thinking maybe I have moisture in my gas but idk. Any ideas? I'll try and answer any questions you have about it as best I can.
the first thought is that its not geting enough fuel. that could be caused by a weak fuel pump, cloged fuel filter, pinched fuel line. a cloged fuel sock in the fuel tank.
new wires, new plugs, blew out the fuel lines with compressed air, fuel pump is is working (don't know how to check how well it's working but it definitely is), new fuel filter as well. Was working fine before I took it to 60. Don't know if it was just a coincidence that it started then tho. And I only drove it about 15 miles before doing that.
I checked my fuel systems recently when the float in my carb was stuck. checked and changed a bunch of stuff before tapping the float with screwdriver to fix it. My first thought is that it is a fuel issue too tho. either contaminated gas or some other thing I can't think of. Blugene, coils can cause this too?
I have seen coils (and coil wires) that cut out after so many kv's. Bryant has a good one with weak pump too. Just cause it's good at idle it may not be suplying enough fuel for higher engine speeds. Your problems are at higher speeds/rpm's.. correct?
yea. I first had the problem at 60mph. now it does it at 40-45 after a few minutes of driving. once it starts doing it I have to slow down to around idle and then I can go again for another few minutes.
the fuel sock is in the tank. its like a prefliter that is on the pickup tube in the tank. you have to pull the pickup out of the tank to check it. i think you can do it with out droping the tank. on the drivers side where the fuel line hooks up to the tank there is a round ring that holds the pick up and the fuel level sender into the tank. I think this is how its set up. i dont have a stock tank so im going off memory of a few years back. you should be able to loosen the ring that holds it all togther by hiting the ears with a brass drift or punch (so you dont cause sparks around gas) to turn the ring so it releases the pick up assembly.
ok. I changed the points, the condenser and the ignition coil. gonna try it out. just need to find out what the correct gap in the points is for my car. 4.1L 250
Mine did this a while back. It was spark plug wire grounding to the header tubes. Eventually burned through the boot. Make sure wires are routed away from hot metal surfaces. book calls for gap of .032-.036
how olds the distrbutor??? mine acts up a little when its been running for an hour just like your talking about
