Went junkyardin yesterday, my one place crushed 75% of all the cars they had. went to another one and they had none. as i was going down the back roads I saw a white and black comet with a spoiler on it parked under a metal carport. any of you from the tellico area near philips junkyard? I did find 2 75ish maverick 4 doors with disc brakes still on them, he said it would take $100 for each setup. if anyone is interested PM me and i will tell you how to get there and send a picture of the car, they are in madisonville TN. I called around some places today and most have crushed every thing old. the scrap prices went up and they are crushing everything. I did find one place that has 40 acres of cars and according to him he has quite a few maverick and comets, but said all the mavericks were 6cyl. I will go there some time this next week. I am hoping to get to tellico the the place that has 15+ mavericks and comets on monday. I have my new camera and will take pictures this time to catalog the yard. Robert
I hauled off an old Bronco last week and got $3.50/100 for it. Highest price I have ever got. #2 copper paid $1.25/lb. Some states require the yards to pay tax on every vehicle. There comes a time when it doesnt pay to keep them around any more. As sad as it is to say, the yard owners are a business and they need to turn a dollar same as everyone else. Cleaver
Can you get any 74 comet parts? or see if blue vinyl interior bench need front side drives back with buttons. Will send picture of needed, and some other interior parts. also need nice hood emblem. side top door and window moldings both side for comet
If you mean Tellico Plains, Tennessee know right were that is, my father-in-law lives there last time I was there I spotted a 1974 2-door maverick It was orange in color. good luck finding some good parts and even some mavs or com's worth restoring.
300 miles and several mavericks found Just got back from an all day maverick hunt. The yard in tellico is only open on saturday from 9-12 . so i turned west to find a grabber my girlfriend's brother told me about. I found it, it is a true grabber with the grabber'snorkle' hood. no motor, no interior....rough shape. the hood has lip rust too. it still has the v8 frame stands in it. nobody came out so he will check for me later. I then went to another yard that just made a contract to crush the entire yard. there was only 4 mavericks there and they were in very bad shape and all 6cyl. I then went to another one I was told about near dandridge. JACKPOT.....40 acres of cars....I found several comets and 10+ 6cyl mavericks. Going back in a couple of weeks to get the 2 good hoods I located and a set of v8 stands. I also took pictures if anyone is interested. By the way I located at least 5+ granada's with the disc brakes still attached:bananaman . Robert
Pics My maverick fundage is at the zero range right now but I bet a lot of us would love to see some pics of your find!
Some Pictures As you can see this is only about 1/3 of the yard. And you can see my friend he was kinda quite ..he had many others roming around. Robert
LLamas? Cool pic, never been to a junkyard/petting zoo. Could you get close to those things? Oh yeah, where are the Mavs??
Sure wish aftermarket would start making some body pieces ( floors), interior parts etc that would make some of the stuff we are currently scrapping worth saving, know what I mean Its a catch 22 though more get scrapped less to restore less need for the parts.
You know, I've been to alot of yards and seen some strange stuff in those yards. But I have yet to ever see a Lama in one! Thats hilarious!
more pictures yep, there were 3-5 lamas, ducks, roosters, 4 big horses, 2 miniture horses and 2 jack asses, and i wasn't one of them , 4 legged kind. here is a few of the mavericks. i have around 30 pictures taken in hi-res(4mb each). I will be going up there again in 2 weeks to get a hood and grill, and maybe a 70 fuel tank. Robert
Seen a few "junkyard dogs" in my time, even a few cats, but never a "junkyard llama"! Heard of one that had an ostrich in it one time, too.
Here is a birds eye view http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&Z=17&X=1369&Y=19930&W=2&qs=deepsprings+road%7cdandridge%7ctn%7c&Addr=Deep+Springs+Rd%2c+Dandridge%2c+TN+37725&ALon=-83.5045336&ALat=35.9714508 Now you guys can see what I had to walk.....BIG YARD
Junkyard Hazards Hmmm, talk about junkyard hazards, better watch your step! Cool Mav pics, wish we had older cars in our yards, Illinois doesn't have much older than the 90's or so. Weather eats 'em up. Great link for the Terraserver, never seen that!
Let me know on blue interior comet parts, also need flip window gaskets and windlace units.....thanks tom
