Anyone using locking rocker arm nuts? I bought a set of Comp Cams roller tip rockers and they don't stay adjusted .... It seems the nut slow loosens ...
Ordered a set of these ... this the type you use? They are 1.2 inches tall so hopefully the fit under a stock valve cover ... http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1399&prmenbr=361
i don't remember what brand the last ones i had were, but the ones i'm using now are from crane. i'll take a look tomorrow and see how tall the other ones are. i was using them on the comp roller rockers with standard height valve covers.
3/8 inch screw-ins with guide plates ... installed using the nuts that came with the Comp Cams Magnum Roller Tip Rockers. When properly adjusted there is only about 1 or 2 threads protruding from the top of the nut ...
my original ones weren't that tall, but the crane ones are about an inch or so. i also have a set of iskendarian that are about an inch. my cranes are working on the new maverick valve covers with no problems.
using the stock studs? if so they are 5/16 thread. i don't know that anyone makes them for this thread.
we used to have a set of 5/16" posi-locks kicking around here...so I know that they were/are made by someone. They worked for years on a stock-headed 302 w/rail rockers. I don't recommend going that route, though...especially considering today's camshaft profiles that are pretty rough on valvetrain parts. Also, there were a few '67 and '68 302 2V and 4V heads that had 3/8 press-in studs in them. Also, some of the 289's were the same way.
