This may seem like a silly question but I was just given a 1974 Mercury Comet yesterday and was wondering if it takes leaded or unleaded gasoline?
    Thanks in advance

Until you start souping the engine up, and needing super...regular unleaded will be just fine.

I've been running regular unleaded in mine for the past 70,000 miles or so. The engine is a 200 originally out of a '71 Grabber, built in November of '70. Had 30k original miles on it when I put it in a few years ago, still runs the same now as it did the day I put it in.

Not a silly question, I was wondering the same about my '70 engine. But then I figured the past 24yrs it had to run unleaded and it still runs.
