hey guys!just put new brakes on the back of the mav and now hub wont go on.So i was wondering is there a trick to get hub slide over new brake shoes?
you need to adjust them in enough to slide the drums over them, and then adjust them from there. If you were using the same adjustment as the old shoes they won't clear as the new pads have more lining, so are thicker. Jody
Like Jody sez, you'll have to turn this "wheel" to let the shoes come closer together. After the hub is on, you should be able to access that wheel again from a hole in the backside to tighten them up (spread the shoes outward) until you feel a drag then back off a little. I think.
DRAG IS BAD. they dont call em self adjusters for nuttin. of course, unless they are new drums, you have to accept the fact that the drum may be slightly outta round, so a bit of drag may occur at one point or another. its kinda but not exactly what a friend of mine told me once about tightenin belts. his philosophy was, i can make em tight enough to make em sound like i got a blower! im thinkin hes long dead by now.
