i am wanting to put a hood scoop on my maverick, could everyone that has them post up with any advice, and if they are happy with the quality, and what style they have, pics would be greatly apreciated
I'm probably one of the few that dont really care for the grabber hood. I like the 69 Mach 1 scoop on a standard hood much better.
I really want to come up with one of the Shaker air cleaners from one of the late model Mach 1 Mustangs and try to install it with one of the standard Mav hoods. I have a 70 Boss 302 Mustang with the Shaker so I think the Shakers are awesome. I don't know how much trouble it would be but I'll find out as soon as I get my hands on one of them. I manage a body shop for a Lincoln Merc dealership so it WILL happen.
Comet scoop... Hey Mavaholic, No, your not the only one that isn't crazy with the Grabber hood scoops. I much prefer the hood scoop that was offered on the Comet. When I was young and had my '76 Stallion, I put the Comet one on and it looked great. I haven't seen the one for a '69 Mach 1, I'll have to do some research. Art
I am not a big fan of the Grabber hood also. But like the others I think the Comet GT scoop looks great. I put a Comet GT scoop on mine to cover the hole that the tunnel ram used to occupy
I was playing with the photo shop and came up with this. Now granted my skills are that good with drawing the lines, but I think it might be something I might try.Especially if you could recess them and blend them in with the hood just right. It's different, but I think it could look cool.
Graybeard, I toyed with that style, the drawing I made on my hood didn't look right. I'm in the process of using the front center section of a standard hood and grafting it onto the rear section of a standard hood and using that for a scoop, it will follow the same lines of the hood when I'm done, just need to find another hood, I'm not messing up my good hood testing this idea out. Even tho it's a GM design,I like a SMALL cowl induction style hood. But the CJ scoop, comet gt,or boss 429 style look good too,I just like plain jane myself.
I apologize for hijacking your thread, but when you put a hood scoop on just for looks, do you have to block off the opening or cut a hole in the hood so that the air entering has somewhere to go? I just imagine the scoop flying off at some point. Am I totally out to lunch here? Or is that not even a factor?
I have an early 70s Dodge Demon scoop on my Mav. It fit like a glove. The scoop is thick fiberglass and has built in studs to bolt it down. I am partial to this scoop, even if it is a Mopar part. Not a Grabber hood fan. I would love to see a Boss 302 style shaker on a Mav. Shouldn't be a big deal. They are available repop now. I would think the FI type shaker would be a pain to make functional. The drawback to the Mopar scoop is that it is about 5" tall at it's highest point, but only adds about an inch of extra clearance over the carb. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/215000-215999/215971_17_full.jpg Dave
