OK, I've been lurking on here for a bit and today just received my gold 1973 Maverick. So I'm sure that I'll be an active member for some time. My first car in High School was a 1973 Red Grabber and I guess this new one is my midlife crises. Plus I have a daughter that wants to get greased up and help me restore this car. I'll post pictures as soon as I figure out how.

I want to say thanks to this forum for all of the fantastic information available here and thanks to everyone that will help me out in the future!

oh, where would be the best place to ask questions about my Maverick? It is very different from the one I had in High School.

    OK, you asked for it.

My new "toy" has a 302 under the hood. No A/C, no power steering.
It has a column manual 3 speed. That freaked me out but I adjusted. Question is what is the type of transmission? C4? Can I switch it out for a 5 speed manual?

I didn't think any of ours came with column mounted manuals...

Most have a C4 automatic with PRND21 on the column.

That 302 can be easily made into a low mpg BEAST! Enjoy!

and Welcome, from the Houston area!

yeah, that shifting gears on the column is weird. Gotta change that to the floor ASAP!

Actually.....ALL 3-speed manual cars came with a shifter on the column. That was standard equipment on ALL Mavericks. Anything else was an option. It was an option to get the floor shift manual transmission. It was an option to get an automatic.
