Well, I can't knock your cars dude. I haven't driven mine enough yet to figure out the mpg.

I waited on a title for 4 months from the PO to register the 4-dr. She never came thru, so I utilized ITS. I am just getting the car on the road.

I tuned it, babied it, and rebuilt the front end. Compression test was good. I think it just needs the crap ran out of it.

yea i had to wait about a month and half on the edge of m saet getting the comet titled. i was going to just part it but i figured for what i paid for it it had nough life in it to go on as a beater for a while.

im hoping to get the comet somewhere in the low 20mpg's, my mavrick is in the mid 20's but its a little lighter so it can get moving with a little less gas. the extra 150lbs worth of bumpers doesnt hlp either

Sounds like me. I bought the 2dr 302 mav for parts until my wife said she liked it way better than my 4dr.
So now I have two and I have my eye on a 3rd in the junk yard.

The only thing a faster car is going to do is cost you more money. Tickets, gas, insurance, maintaining it... believe me, I know. LOL And then once you get tired of the "fast" car because it's not fast enough for you anymore (and believe me, it will happen), and you can't afford to make it go faster, you will be equally discontent with it.

I think you will greatly regret selling your car down the road. If it gets you where you need to go, then I'd say just keep driving it. You have forever to make improvements on the car.

    Hmmm ... Familiar ...

    Jamie,
Well said! Sounds like it's already started. :burnout:

No wonder why I'm not even close to finished with mine after 15 years. :p

Hmmmm ... 393? ... or a 347 decisions, decisions ... I guess I'll just have to pull the 351 out and see if it can be cleaned up

I talked to him about that and it sounds like enough of a difference that I am going to get one and put it on my 200 I6. It'll probably be my Christmas present from my wife.

its still not going to feel like a 302 but its something. what you get out of it usually cost more then the $100 it takes to do the swap. then again i already have 50 more cubic inches then you so im sure i had a better lowend tq number to build off of. i'd definatly do it, espically if its going to be a driver

BTW My .02cents on keeping the car is...I agree with all the guys that said keep it or you will regret it down the road. Take it easy and limit the "one wheel Peel" and drive it like it's a 6 cylinder, keep the oil changed and that car will last you well long enough to get you through school and into your first real job. Then you can park it and buy something else and rebuild the maverick with a 302 and all the go-fast goodies that will make you smile when you foot hits the accelerator.

I had a 250 I6 in my 70 grabber and it lasted over a year with a rod knocking before it actually threw the rod and I had to replace the engine. and then it only cost me $105 for a replacement and less than a days work to swap it out. Counting the engine hoist rental and the beer I was probably back on the road with a low mileage junkyard 250 for less than $200 and drove the car for a few years after that and then sold it for more than I paid for it and the guy that bought it drove it for a long time after that. For all I know the car may still be on the road.

I guess what I am trying to say is that if you take care (oil change) of those I6 engines and don't dog the crap out of them they will last forever. Keep your Grandma's car and drive it. Get through school THEN fix it up. Who knows maybe by then our little 70's economy cars will be worth the $$$ we think they should be.
