hey guys! my dad just got his own name...torinojh. we need some help with the car....i know he's already made a post containing other info and questions..please please give some advice. but i have another question on a similar subject.

we have a 302 in the car and believe we have the correct flex plate and harmonic balance on it, but still have vibrations.

would it be possible to remove the trans, remove the torque, then reinstall the trans w/o the torque and have the motor and car still run??

    Thanks alot guys!!

    PS Pics comin' soon!! :D

An automatic transmission cannot operate without the torque converter. The converter is what spins the automatic transmission shafts and drive the pump. No torque converter - no move.

I dont think they want it to move, as long as you know it will not move yes you can.. it is MY understanding you just what to find out what is causing the vibrations right?

Y`all could just bolt the bellhousing and starter up without the tranny or torque convertor.

Couldn't you just undo the convertor bolts, and push the convertor back away from the flexplate?

The convertor will not go back that far and if you were to try to do that you could end up bending the convertor studs.

Oh Ya, forgot about the studs, the three fords i usually work on all have aftermarket convertors and have bolts like a GM:slap:
