yea. Good luck on that last bit. I had a cop promise to show up to court and ask the judge to dismiss the ticket if I corrected the problem with my car. Went to court and the cop didn't show. So now I'm arguing a 500 dollar ticket.
Ok so now I need to figure out what driven gear I need, the tranny is a stock C-4. the rear end gearing is 279 and tire size is 275/60/15, any ideas?
What driven gear is in the transmission now? (the one on the cable end) Like was mentioned in an earlier post, the drive gear in the transmission would determine which driven gear you need. By my calculations, for a 7 tooth drive gear it calculates to 14.54985, so to err on the high side(indicated speedo measurement), a 14 tooth driven gear, for an 8 tooth drive gear, you need a 16 tooth driven gear, and a 9 tooth drive gear would need a 18 tooth driven gear. These would be a close estimate as tire brands can have variations in revs/mile. I would see what you have and figure your % change you need and subtract teeth until you get close since you don't know how many drive gear teeth you have. Here is the formula: driven gear teeth= (drive gear teeth * axle ratio * tire rev per mile) / 1000 and to calculate revs/mile: 20850/ 2*[(section width*aspect ratio)/25.4+wheel dia] in your case: 20850 / 2*{(275*0.60)/25.4)+15}= 744.8556 revs per mile
If the cop doesn't show up for court you should be able to get the ticket dismissed for failure to prosecute. The prosecutor/district attorney needs the cop there to testify. With no witnesses they have no case against you, so cop may be helping you out by not showing... It usually takes more than once for the cop not to show before the judge will dismiss the case, but if he doesn's show next time, ask the judge to dismiss the case.
Take any proof you have that the speedo was out of calibration and also any invoices for parts or labor tht show you have or are getting the problem repaired. Never know, it might help. You can ask for ticket to be nolle prossed (sort of like being dismissed) on payment of court costs with that info to show the Judge. Court costs can be high but it will keep your insurance rates from rising because of the ticket.
