fuel cleaners?

Has anyone tried these gumout fuel system cleaners? someone gave it to me and said to try it out but i have to fill my tank, have any of you tried one and did anyone notice a difference? im sure my fuel system could use a good cleaning haha

 

ive probly used gum out in the past. you may or may not feel a difference with it. it really depends on the quality of fuel that you use. cheaper gas leaves more depostis on the intake valve than quality gas. the fuel system treatments brake up or disolve these cabon depostis that form on the intake valve. the deposits do two things that are bad. they take up space in the intake track leting less air fuel mixture flow past and they also act like a sponge and absorb the fuel. the best way to see if it works is to check your fuel milage after you go through the tank of treated gas to see if its beter than befor.

 

One fuel cleaner supplement that does work is Techron (by Chevron)

I have used Chevron in the truck and our cars for a lot of years, and at the risk of being redundent...............it does work and I only use Chevron.
I used to use GumOut in my 97 Chevy Dually, and would run one bottle through every three tanks............each tank was 24 gallons. I did notice a difference at idle.............but this was a fuel injected motor, not carb'd.
I don't/haven't done it on in any of our newer vehicles.

 

I use "cheap" regular gas in mine. It's an original 250! I also use "Lucas" fuel conditioner every now and then. It cleans the fuel system really well. It's not cheap,but it works,and that's what counts!

 

I get about 2 more miles per gallon with Chevron and the spark plugs run cleaner.

 

Use either Chemtool, Seafoam or Lucas. Fot the first two years I owned the Comet I used the cheapest gas I could buy, detonation was a serious problem on the freeway, this past year I've run only 91 Chevron gas+fuel additive every two months or so.

In the past I would know when it was time to change my plugs as I would get a little bit of a popping noise after letting off the gas immediately after hard acceleration(this would happen so every 12 months with Champion copper plugs gapped at .035) This past year I have used Motorcraft copper plugs gapped at .035 and it has been 15 months and have had no issues. I'd say I put about 5500 miles on my car every year(everywhere I drive is within 30 miles.)

I credit the extra longevity of my plugs,smoother idle and better pickup to the fuel system cleaners and good gas.

 

i would love to get 91 premium but regular (87?) is around 3.30 here in southern cali. i dont have that kind of money..

 

$3.30? And I thought $2.85 was high! Not to rub it in.(well... kinda)

 

the last time i looked at premium gas it was close to $4 a gallon! i still have to put money in other parts of the car.. not just the tank haha

 

I think it's 3.25 here in the South Bay.. The 50 dollar fill ups kill me.

 

And you guys think $3.30 a gallon for 87 is expensive, up here in the "very North State" 87 is $3.40 a gallon, mid grade is $3.50, and 91 is $3.60 a gallon................Oh yes, 114 VP race gas is $12.87 per gallon.

My Dodge pickup has a 24 gallon tank and the Hemi runs better on mid grade and gets almost 2 more miles per gallon......................filling up is usually between $72 and $80.....................that takes most of the fun out a hundred dollar bill!

 

yea.. 3.30 is a good day about 2 weeks ago i think regular was around 3.46.. but the weather has been pretty nice except that makes me want to drive my non air conditioned car a bit more hehe
