anyone have and easy trick to unsticking some disk breaks on the front of a car that has been sitting for 7 years? would like to move the car to an easier place to work on it but the front wheels wont budge
Pull off the front wheels. Then you can try putting a pry bar between the caliper and rotor, try to collapse the piston to take the grab out of the pads.More than likely the pads are rotted to the rotors and the pistons are probably frozen in their bores. You will probably end up pulling them apart where it is.If you really need to move it and are not worried about the brakes yet.Pull the calipers off pop the outer pad off and put it back together so it will roll.Note: you will not have brakes when you do this but I am guessing after 7 years there are no brakes anyway.Good luck.
sounds like the best idea would be to have the car towed where you want it. i'd probably put new calipers, pads and rotars on it anyway. good luck
not sure what kinda money im going to put into this car, 4 the moment i need to get it on a dolly or trailer to get it home so i can see whats left of it... guess i'll just have too take the wheels off were it sits..
If you take the wheels off you can lube the slides on the calipers and try to move them out with a pry bar. If that doesn't work get out the BFH and smack it! (BFH= big friggin hammer)
Easiest way is to remove the front wheel, unbolt the caliper, and take a hammer and knock the caliper off the rotor.
