i have a 71 maverick with a 6cyl, i am currently halfway through the 5 lug convertion. i need to spend some time getting my truck ready for winter now so the front disc convertion is going to have to wait. are the front drums the same on a 5 lug v8 car? if so i may just go that route..

My tire shop said no. The 5-lug have different brake shoes and would need a new backing plate. I too that this would be an inexpensive way to go to 5-lug up front..Scott

Steve, the best way is to do the disc brake conversion. Not only is it incredibly easy, it is safer in the whole shot. or you could instead of just taking the drums from the drum car, take the whole spindel?

thanks for the info Scotty, that was i wanted to know..

your right the disc is much better and safer, i have everything i need to do the swap to disc, but i don't want to put the stuff on till i can get new calipers, pads, hoses, wheel barrings and get my rotors cut... i don't want to drive around on used brake parts, with my very limited budget thats money that should be spent on getting my bronco ready for the winter.. all depends on how the next few weeks go..
