Well, while welding the exhaust today, my '71 caught fire. Fortunately, not a total loss, but it's stuff like this that makes a guy sell a car, I feel. I just sunk a ton to money into the new drivetrain and now, I don't even want to drive it. I've got Hagerty on it, but I don't think, since it wasn't at a business/shop, that it can be covered, I wouldn't expect it to.
Sorry to hear that Bruce, but I'd sure check with Haggerty about that. You might be surprised. Give them a call and let us know how you make out.
A friend of mine had his model A to fall off of a jack and it damaged the door on the car....Hagerty took care of it right away. I`m betting that they will pay to repair it .
I will give them a ring in the morning and see what they say, since the office was closed by the time I got my head on straight.
I think Hagerty should cover it. If not then we need to find out about other damage from storms, hail, tornado, floods. I hope you can fix your car.
My car caught fire a couple years ago, in my garage, and they covered all the damages and I had no issues with them. Best insurance you can buy!
Don't let it stop you Bruce, one of the big highlights for me was going to be seeing old friends again, you being one of the names I was really happy to hear that was coming. What got hurt? HOw can I help?
Thanks for the words guys, on top of the fire, I've been down for the count with a respiratory infection for the last week. I'm coming out of it now with the help of lots of medication. After action report: the fire destroyed: 1.5 seatbelts, the rear panel that divides the seat from the trunk, the rear decklid (including my mint rear defroster unit), speakers, and scorched the headliner pretty good. The back glass is intact, but the seal is now damaged. I talked to Hagerty, and it looks like they'll cover it. I was concerned, because this happened in a friend's garage and not mine. Because I was working on the car at the time, it was covered. The appraiser came out within 2 days and I've had an estimated amount submitted to me to cover the damage. This whole thing is a bummer, so thank you all for your support. My original headliner was in such good shape everywhere else that the appraiser asked if I had replaced it recently! I doubt I will find a replacement defroster grill, but everything else should not be hard to come by. Now I have to start shopping around for a place that will remove the front and rear glass, deal with the headliner, and reinstall everything to my approval.
Also: no one got hurt and my friends garage didn't burn down; those are the important things. Quite honestly, the worst thing about the whole deal is the smell. The car is going to reek of fire for some time. On top of that, we only had a dry chemical extinguisher handy (last checked for charge in 1992!), so every nook and cranny inside and out will need to be carefully cleaned.
