Hey everybody, I just finished the V-8 swap on my mav. I'm VERY excited. It's a 302 bored 40 over with flattop pistons, about a 258 cam, all new bearings, headers and a 2 barrel. Okay wait, before we start downing the 2 barrel, let me say taht it did not do too shabby in the quarter. With my new auto zone tranny (436.00 with tax and a 18 month unlimited mile warrenty) shifting on its on, the car pulled 90 mph. When I shifted it, the car pulled a 103mph. Not too bad for a 2 barrel and auto. I had dual 2 1/4 glasspacks and turndowns put on it, and let me tell you, that this car gets noticed. It sounds mean at idle, and when it revs, it sounds pretty awesome (Or to me it does anyways ) I have pictures, that I will put up tonight. The car runs like a dream, and even at 90-100 mph, it was still accelerating like it's going outta style(I was very impressed with the performace. You gotta remember, that I just came from a 200 I-6 that probably didn't have 70 horsepower it was so shot, and my old tranny was slipping terribly. To me, this is awesome!) Pictures and more tonight!!!!! Till then, this is a Very Excited - Country MAv
You dont know how much good this actually did for my heart! In a few months, I too, will be swapping a 302 from a 200. What headers did you use? were they a bolt in? what went into the headers in total. Oh man now I really cant wait to get my motor in! Have fun! -Todd
I for one am always impressed by someone who defies conventionality and ends up with fantastic results. Those are impressive numbers. You should be proud. Great job!
Those truly are impressive #'s, 103mph should be good for decent 14's, impressive for a 2bbl!!! Do you have pics of the engine install??
sounds great Preston Glad to hear that you got it going wish I could say the same for my heap ohwell all in time And Todd I'll field the ????? on the headers for preston since he got em from me.........heck I don't know they were on the first mav project I brought home.......but I will try and get ahold of the fella I got the car from he was the guy who put them on the car
hey country..... awesome job with the car!!!!!!!!! my son (todd) is for now off my back about making a killer engine. my dad had a 72(cough)nova with a 350 and it flew! the much lighter mav with that 1971 302 with a 2bbl and headers will boogie too! uhhhh where are the pictures? not that i plan to make a habit of this but will that engine torch up my 235/60 firehawks? just gotta do it once so i can say i did.
