OK i rewired my tail lights and now the turn signal and brake lights work but not my reverse lights, and also my turn lights come one but do not flash but my hazard lights flash why is this. I replaced all the fuses and replaced all the bulbs but cant seem to get them to work.
They are, i was just wondering because they flash when the hazards are put on but not the turn signals
I don't know about that. I had some weird light stuff, much like you are describing, going on with my taillights a couple years ago and checking the ground fixed it. -Corbin
Not but it gets it signal from 2 different switches...sounds like your grounds ok, it the hot wire from the signal lever thats the problem
had teh same prob Yeah pretty much everything Riporter said, was my prob. Best of luck to you on it. Bill
first of all your gonna have to have a D/C voltage meter or test light, then find the wire that feeds the signals in the back...should be color coded the same as the wire in the back. Once you find it under the dash trace it back to the column and see if where your losing the voltage at...it sounds like its in the column though. Another thing to check is the Terminal block on the firewall under the dash...I was losing all kinds of voltage in this block due to corrosion and its usually the female part of the block thats the problem...I ended up bypassing at least a half a dozen wires from that block and will probably end up doing all of em before its over. This Comet was from up north were corrosion is king. I checked the block on my Mav from down south and it still looks brand new. Good luck with it.
Ok, but if that was the problem why would the lights come on when i flicked the signal switch but not flash just light up, its like the flashers dead buts its a brand new flasher
I didn't realize the light would come on and not flash...If its not the flasher, its by me. I would be checking those wires coming and going from the flasher and those connections. The sounds like a problem for the Mavaholic Man I bow to ye Oh Great One
differnt flasher for the signal lights and the hazard lights? Do '73's use the same flasher for both functions? My '70 has separate flashers for turn and hazard.
They all have 2 flashers. One for turn and a one for hazzards. By rewiring, what did you wire exactly? If both front and rear lights, light, problem is likely the flasher itself or a grounding problem. Also make sure the turn filiment is lighting and not the running filiment. I'd venture to say way more than half of snakey light problems can be traced to bad grounding. Make sure no other lights are lighting or going out while your turn signal is on. If so, you definately have a grounding problem.
Flashers are usually rated by how many lamps they can operate. A hazzard flasher is rated for twice as many bulbs as compared to a turn signal flasher. What causes the flasher to to turn on and off is the amount of current flowing through it, at least in the thermal type flashers our Mavs use. Some new cars use electronic flashers that will work independant of the load applied. So if you have a poor ground at a lamp there may not be enough current flow to make the flasher blink but the light could still turn on. I've seen it happen. Also if a hazzard flasher (8 lamp) is used in place of a turn signal flasher (4 lamp) there might not be enough current to make it blink.
