the seam sealer in my drip rails were cracked so i did a repair. removing the seam sealer was a . i got it all out and then wire brushed the rail. taped it off and primed it. got some seam sealer and put it in. this stuff sets pretty fast. the tube said let air dry 20 min. before painting. once you start you need to keep moving. then i primed and painted the rail. it is a pretty straight foward job. no special tools. i took the chrome off with a church key (bottle opener). put the tape on and went at it. the opener worked very well. i haven't put the chrome back on yet, letting it cure good first...frank...:bananaman :bananaman
Too late for you Frank.....but whatever you do....don't fill the "gutter" all the way to the top. Water will pour into your car from the roof when the windows are down instead of being "guttered" somewhere else.
craig, we are talking about it raining, the window down and the car getting wet? am i missing something? doesn't the car get wet when the window is down and it is raining? hummmmmmmmm. i didn't fill them to the top...frank...:bananaman :bananaman :bananaman
Craig. This may be too late, but NEVER PET A FLAMING DOG! :bananaman  edit: Now that I read it again, it appears as though Craig had done the filling up deed - and was just 'sorta' admitting it in his post. It's okay. I made a mistake - once too. I told somebody I was wrong about something but it turned out I was right.
Yes...I did it on my station wagon. Any water on the roof (dew, car wash, rain, etc) ends up coming in the window and soaking the driver when he goes around a corner with the window rolled down.
I am imagining your cigarette getting doused as you tourn onto main street. How many times before it was habit to keep your arm inside. very funny.
Arm didn't have to hang outside.....my entire lap got wet as well. It is funny when people ride with me and I turn the corner and I get the passenger a lap full of water!!! Opps....sorry I forgot to tell you that when I turn a corner you need to.........
oh yeah Frank, great post. I am sure most people on here who have that exact problem with their car now know of an easy and effective way to repair. Dan
That's a unique one that Craig has...a car with integral shower installed! Drip rail problems are common with a lot of older cars. The Bronco II I just got had a leak in the upper windshield area. I took it to my glass guy and he told me that it was a drip rail issue. There are a lot of design flaws where the drip check sealant cracks with age and lets water get in to the interior because the gutters wern't attached properly at the factory. That was what was happening to the Bronco. After resealing the gutters and some urethane to the upper windshield for insurance, it's nice and dry in the Bronco now.
