Ok I went through all the older posts and couldnt find anything addressing my particular problem. I have a 72 grabber 4 drum brake set up. I just upgraded to discs in the front. All that went well, HOWEVER, the prop valve from the donor car and the one I most often see offered with the swaps has the mounting bracket on the wrong side. Wrong side meaning that when I have the front brake fittings forward and the brake pressure warning light pointing up, the bracket and therefore the mounting bolts are facing the engine compartment and NOT the fender well. So my questions are... what am i doing wrong? Can it be put in without mounting to the fender well at all? and finally do I put it in upside down so the warning light mount is pointing down and the bolts face the correct way? ANY help would be appreciated as I feel like an idiot having issues with such a simple thing. Amon
Can't say for sure about on a Maverick but on the F100's I have done disc brake swaps on it didn't seem to matter which way the switch was pointing. They are mounted in at least two different places on the F100's. I really don't think it would hurt anything if it was on the bottom. clint
to late for that.. pulled it already. AND the input fittings dont fit the new prop valve either... fun
yeah mine is upside down, just left the wire unplugged. i can tell you this, when it worked if the idiot light turned on you already knew the brakes were out....
complete well thanks for the input. I ended up putting it in upside down. It seems to be working. no leaks and I was even able to connect the warning light sensor lead. It does seem that the rear brakes are getting more juice now though. I have the same resevoir connected to the same part of the prop block... So maybe I have to change out the Master cylinder as well as I am using the same one from the for drum set?? Anyone know? Amon
just make sure the lines are double traced out, the disc one has different sized fittings so if you just go by that you will have drums on the disc cylinder and discs on the drum. or a disc on the wrong output from the prop valve. i needed two fittings to get that right but may have been starting with the wrong ones from a prev owner...
I should have specified. When I did the change over, the brake lines were made idiot proof. The fittings would only go one way. rear res to front of prop block, and front res on rear of prop. So when I fabricated the brake lines I made sure to match the fittings to their relative position on the prop and cyclinder. Its always been my understanding that the front of the prop black is for the front and the front of the master for the rear brakes... Is this not the case?
