When i was at the goodguys car show...This guy walks up to me ....and starts looking at my car and says............." Yup these were neat cars ,but they just wernt built very well from the beggining....starts goiing on about door hinges failing at 50,000 miles....front end clunking around at 30,000 miles...and so on.......WELL I DEFEND OUR CARS....I LOVE THEM FOR WHAT THEY ARE.......BUT MOST OF THE TIME PEOPLE ARE JUST SHOCKED TO SEE A MAVERICK....THEY USUALLY SAY THEY HAVENT SEEN ONE SINCE THE 1980S ......I LIKE BEING UNIQUE
well going to a technical school with a bunch of gear heads, im always defending ford and my cars, it goes the same way each time with us agreeing to disagree and a little name callin
Aside from the rust and the need to grease the suspension on a semi regular basis, Mavericks were actually super reliable and fuel effcient too! My old Grabber gave me more pleasure for the $$ spent than anything I've owned since. That is why 37 years after buying my first one, I'm building a new one (and actually excited about it)
My Dad bought a green Grabber in 1970, and I literally grew up with it. We took plenty of trips in it, and I don't ever recall it having any major problems whatsoever. I >do< remember my younger brother pulling the ignition tumbler out of the steering shaft , and for its last few years with us, it required no key to start! The car was super reliable, and Dad kept it well maintained in the driveway - it was easy to work on! He drove it for 10 years until rust took a great deal of it apart (Northwest Pennsylvania), and then traded it in on a 1980 Chevy Citation - which preceded to rust from the INSIDE OUT within a year. Talk about a POS car... Chris
My car has surprisingly little rust and no rust out at all. I love the way she runs out and the memories i have for my first Comet are relived through my newest one only better because it's a V8 with comfy buckets.
Sorry to bump this but.......... Today my former friend, now rival, says his brother who is in his senior year, has a 7-second Monte Carlo, with a 383 stroker and an all steel body. All he has is a go-cart, it makes a whole 6 hp. One day I overheard him talking, he said "it makes so much torque when I take off it turns" Umm.... I hope he knows 2 seat go-carts have only 1-wheel-drive. But he had a ball of crumpled paper and said "Look a Maverick" I just let it go, but then he had his cronies tell me "7 second monte carlo", since he is too much of a whimp to say it to my face. I replied "Yup, 7 seconds running for the block to crack" he replied "no, 7 sceonds down the track" I said yeah "7 seconds in the 1/16 mile" then he said "Not, even in your dreams" so I said, "Your right, not in my dreams, because this is reality" I'm about to beat the living S*** outta him. "Too bad he doesn't know about da' plum"
70PS, I'd ask 'em for an authentic time slip from the nearest drag race track. (then listen for the crickets)
Yea,in the 1/8 mile maybe. If it's in the 1/4,you can bet it's heavily sprayed/boosted and not very streetable. And if it's an "all steel" car so what, the '78-87s aren't any heavier than a crash bumper Mav.I'd ask for a timeslip, cuz it sounds like to me.
I don't honestly think the car even exists. The only car i think his brother has is this one http://motorcitynationals.com/v-web/gallery/album303/DOC9702 Last i heard it runs 13's. And I dont think they have the money for a 7-second car. Plus I heard he sold that camaro, and bought a 10 second monte and then was going to put a 383 so it runs 7's. But how come that camaro is sitting in his driveway right now?
My Mav ,i love her ,she is preety ,down right beautiful, she grawls like a bat out of hell on the street and the track. I get a positive comment from all that see her ,ford ,chevy and mopar alike and i never have to defend her ,she demands respect and gets it . My two cents
I live in "Chevy Land" and get comments like, Not bad for a Ford,Too Bad you didn't put that much time in a Chevy you would have something. I just say where's your's,or I don't want to be a follower. Anybody who knows anything about cars & $$ always gives flowers and it doesn't make any dif what brand they like. Anybody else you just take them for what they are a know nothing idiot!
