Hello to all! I'm am both a new member and a new Maverick Grabber owner. I recently purchased a 1974 Maverick Grabber from the original owner. A little body rust on the lower panels but other than that a real find. All original including good paint. The dash lights are very dim and when I tied to remove the panel I could never find the speedo clip. The instructions said to un-clip the speedo from under the dash, remove the two dash screws and the panel will pull forward and out. Are there any tricks to reaching that clip from under the dash. Thanks
I think it's easier to partially pull out the instrument panel and pull the cable out that way - from the front/side . Of course that depends if the speedometer cable has enough slack in it to do that ..
Thanks dmhines. I started do try that and it felt like the cable was pretty tight. I will see if I can feed some slack from under the dash and try agian.
mav-rick; there is a tab on the side of the connector, and if you push the tab and pull on the cable, it will slide right out. Easier for me to do it under the dash. Good luck!
m-r, i had to take my cable loose from the tranny. there were two clips on the cable holding it to the floorpan on my 73' but my 77' didn't have them. this way you can get all the slack you need . i put the 2825 5w bulbs in my dash. i also painted the inside of the cluster with the spray on chrome. now i have to use the dimmer on my dash lites because they are too brite. once you do this it will be a snap next time...frank...:bananaman :bananaman p.s. i put the same bulbs in my side lites.
hey i had to take my gauges out and i reached the cable by just reaching up under the dash by the radio, there is a path way to get the cable no disassebling required. and the best part is there no tension on the cable makes easy to undo
Thanks much. I was going to take the cable loose from the tranny but your way sounds much easier. I appreciate the help.
