I'm new to the forums, with my first car being a 4 door 77 maverick. winter has struck & I'm noticing more and more problems with my little car than when purchased. I was wondering if you guys could help pinpoint or let me know if these are common problems. - wet drivers side floorboard - Windshield leaking near rubber above dashboard (I beleive is causing driver carpet to be wet) - Trunk, left hatch is dragging water all the way down to my trunk (soaking it, when it snows or rains) - we have ordered a sending unit (the original is barely hanging on), would this cause my mpg to be as low as it is. I drive from my house to school daily (3-4miles) in stop and go traffic and with my (i believe correct) calculations I'm getting 6.2mpg with my little 250. From what I've read I should be getting near 20mpg i think. any help would be appreciated
The windshield gasket make be your source of wet floors but more than likely, your cowl is rusted out. Take a bucket of water or a hose and pour water in the vent slots in front of the windshield while another person looks under the dash to see if water is coming in. If so you have a lot of work ahead of you if you want to save it. Check out this thread and you will see the problem. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=36382 As far as the trunk, first check the water channel around the opening. Make sure it is not full of crap. If it is clean and not rusted out, then more than likely you need a new trunk seal. They are reproduced. Water can also leak in from around the rear window seal.
thanks, ill spray to check & see if it's the cowl this sunday, i just hope it isn't the cowl. if it is your little walkthrough should be of help.
