Were all Comet GT's Bucket Seat cars with Floor shift ? Did all Comet GT`s come with a V8 engine ? Did they all have reinforced ( Plated ) shock towers ? Thanks,TH
1. They all came with buckets, but floor shift was an option 2. The base engine for a Comet GT was the 250, the 302 was optional 3. I believe the plated shock towers started in '73 model year
David, I agree with what you said but got a question on the engine standard option. Mine came with the 200 six and the original 71 Mercury add for the Comet GT that I have says that it comes with the 100 hp "6", or you can order 115 or 145 hp or the 210 hp V-8. So just which one was the 100hp was it the 170? I'm sure you've seen the add, it's the one with the white 71 GT. - Matt
I'm gonna say, 170, 200, 250 & 302... My 74 Comet GT has bucket seats, column shifter (C-4), 250 with A/C & plated shock towers..... Plated shock towers started in 73....
ive never seen a 200 GT untill your's Matt. it's possible that it could have been the standard engine, although your's is the first and only one i have ever seen. good info
This is how my 73 was when I got it. Only the motor had a hole in the block about the size of a soda can, and it was laying on the steering linkages
I have a 1971 dealer brochure on the Comet. The GT package did not cover any drive train upgrades so the standard engine would be the 170 for all Comets.
