89 or later has bigger valves i assume and milling it will bump up the comp ratio? Beer budget horepower!!
I'll try to answer both questions that were asked. First of all, I bought a 73 Comet GT as a parts car. I wanted the GT options for my other 73 Comet 302. It came from the factory with the 250 cu in. The GT option was just that (cosmetic). I have to admit I was surprised to see a I6 in a GT car. Oh, well! As far as a 200 head on a 250 motor.....Yes, it can be done. I did just that on my 74 Comet 4dr (before it became a parts car). The head bolted right up. Hope this helps clear up things.

I'll need to pick up some spec books I done chevy's before.....who needs a book for a Chevy.... thanks all for your help, after spending a day cruz'en in the woods I plan to keep the I6. do a mild build and have fun with it. Plenty of donar cars in the local wrecking yard they have 8 mavs and 6 comets and some granadas too. If anybody needs parts let me know.
hello all, just wanted to add my .02.....the 262 pistons sit way up in the bore, so they end up being flush with the deck, and giving you a 9.something to 1, with the stock head...milling the head any amount, almost, would put it in the hard to find enough octane range

I have all the part numbers, all the procedures and can even tell you how much power you can push from a naturally aspirated, non-nitrous, 250 inch that will perform as close to a V-8 as you want. I realy don`t think you`ll need racing gas and six carbs just for 250 hp a 525 cfm carb would be more than plenty realy a 350 cfm holley might even be good for it
elliot, you can build a 14 second, 3200 pound, Comet or Maverick really easily. The carburetion is a stumbling block due to distribution problems but there is a fix for it and it's all Ford (Holley-Ford). 533 CFM spread over three carbs (tri-power six) placed on the existing manifold with minor machine work and some adapters. Easy stuff. I have worked on an alcohol 200 Cu In sitting in a rail chassis that was good for seven second runs.The limiting factor with the straight six is RPM. The harmonics in a long engine become destructive so you have to keep the RPM in safe zones if you want it to stay together. I'd say 14 seconds is a reasonably quick naturally aspirated street car without resorting to nitrous or spending big bucks on after-market parts. PaulS

I have plans on making my 4 door into a 13 sec. street car with a turbo 250 from what I`ve read it hasn`t been done before but with the right parts I think I`ll be able to do it

V8 vs I6 my take.. im a V8 guy. id prefer to have a V8 if the car is supposed to be a hotrod. however, i gotta admit that id really love to hot rod an I6. throw out the comparisons! you've got 2 different animals. i had a 61 ranchero that came with a 170 I6. i found that you can do all kinds of cool things to that lil engine, including 3 1 barrell carbs. looks really cool, is faster, gets BETTER mpg. i dont know why turbo or supercharging wouldnt be possible. i had originally intended to put a V8 in when i bought it, but found out converting the car into something that would accept a ballsy V8, would cost far more than the drivetrain itself. this is how i began tinkering with the idea of an I6. no.. it probably wont be fast. but... a Ford I6 is an extremely reliable/tough engine. i think a hotrodded I6 maverick would be both unique and cool. you can get the performance level close to that of a V8, and it will be extremely easy to work on. also... the weight savings! your car would handle a lot better with the 6. i never did end up hotrodding my 6, but @ some point in my muscle car career... i want one. i think it'd be more reliable. you should find yourself a clifford's performance catalog and do some research. you may find the concept as facinating as i did. dennis schendjal (spelling?) has a book out dedicated to ford 6 cylinder performance. It has a lot of great stuff in it, and explains which 6 cylinder engine parts are interchangable. i wouldnt condemn you if you go with the V8. however, with gas prices the way they are, and your desire for uniqueness... i think the I6 would be cooler. and nothing sounds like an inline 6. would sound really cool with headers. if you are interested in obtaining that book, contact me by email, and ill find a way to get you in touch with him. i've seen this car in person! very neat set up! i wish i saw who owned it i'd love to ask him where he got the addapter for the holley... but this is really making me think. hum? stock or modified 6? well i got two V8's been there done that! so i think the six is a neat way to go. and hell with a turbo..like a T04, thats a kick arse way to go! infact the car i just got, has a 6 in it. i really didn't care if it had a v8 cuz big wuppee.. what the hell am i going to do with another v8? i would have loved to turbo the 8 but man.. with what room? yeah i seen it done but sorry, i can't stand the way it is without the turbo.. there is just no freakin room in the maverick engine bay.... and to get that thing to run nicely (Drivability, reliability and what not) without cutting stuff up? and when i mean nicely not going over 180 deg in traffic.. LA traffic at that! with the 6 you have room for days! including an intercooler! besides wouldn't you rather have me be working on a I6 ford or a SR20 Nissan? which i might ad is still on my list of to dos i say go with it! you don't know how fired up i'm am to build this I6.... i already got someone looking into a Aussie 6 head...lol!
