Kinked fuel line.Blockage in line(blow it out) with compressed air.Hole in line/pump diaphragm allowing it to suck air someplace.Look for a leak or small stain along the length of the fuel line from front to back.(Definitely check your oil)Fuel filter installed backwards.(doubt it if car ran fine before)and you havent changed them since parking it.
since we overhauled the 302 we put a clear __"inline filter before the new pump " and one before the carb. WHY?
why not? Nothing wrong with that setup. Just added security. My trucks that way. except I got 3 filters. one on each tank going to the switching valve and one after the pump before the carb
Since you have a filter before and after the pump, just blow the sender unit sock off with compressed air. (be sure to have the gas cap off) My bet is that there was enough stuff in the tank that it has clogged the sock filter. You can remove it with compressed air into the line as it comes into the engine compartment. (before the pump or filter)
