Okay, I have seen lots of people ask about fitting an AOD into a '70 Maverick. It is not a plug and play arrangement.

Last weekend I dropped the engine and transmission into my '70. Motor dropped right down onto the mounts and lined up perfectly. When I tried to put the trans mount in, I ran into clearance issures with the trans tunnel brace. Specifically, the material around the two upper tail shaft attatchment bolts hit the bracing about 1 1/2" to 2" below the top of the trans tunnel. This causes the transmount to be too low and the tailshaft angle to be too large.

I had to cut out most of the trans tunnel bracing to get adequate clearance around the entire transmission.

On the plus side, I am now getting lots of practice installing and removing the 5.0/AOD combination by my self. Lots of fun. :(

Good to know, any issues with the bellhousing to firewall clearance?

No problems with the Bellhousing to firewall. The only point of contact was the bracing.

I will post pictures later tonight after I get the engine trans back into the car.

I am also aboutto start this project. I have a fully built AOD waiting to go behind my 347. It has a hardened inout shaft heavy duty gears, bands and clutches, and a manual valve body. What have you found to use for the Throttle valve cable to go from the tranny to the carb linkage?

Did the stock drive shaft length match up. I am waiting to find out if it will work so I don't have to get a new one before I drop mine in.

With all these AOD's going in are there any C4's out there that are rebuildable?

If you are replacing your C4 with another trans I am in the market for core C4's.
I need at least two - they should have the 302 bellhousing but I can get around almost anything. I am in Seattle and will pick up locally.

Yea, Georgia is a bit far for me to drive....

I have been looking around for cores and all the wrecking yards are dumping them for scrap. I have tried to get a few but they won't hold them - its easier to dump them than it is to sell them - those that will sell them are asking $50 to $70 dollars for cores. I just have to get there before they load them on the truck. DISTURBING!

    Just curious...

Could any of the tight spots be helped by grinding material away from the case?
Or are these spots just a matter of pure bulk of the tranny?
