What a nice community here! I thought I'd join up and say hello.

I just came off of my weekly Ebay parts car search, and decided to Google to see what kind of Maverick sites there were. This one seemed to be the best, and after reading through a few posts, it also seemed to have the nicest and most informed members. So I chose this one. I really only have time for one message board per particular subject, because I visit alot of them.

A little info about me... I'm a mid-30 year old gearhead stuck in the cornfields of Indiana. I have a 70 Chevelle, a 68 and a 69 Nova, and a 67 and 70 Mustang. No, I'm not rich, actually the 69 Nova is the only one on the road! My daily driver though is a rusty 77 CJ-5.

I haven't bought a Maverick yet, but I owned one in 1989. It was a classic story-- little old lady bought it new and only drove it to church (she lived next to the grocery). Now, I don't know what this little old lady was into, but she bought it with the V8/automatic. When I got the car, it only had 30,000 original on the clock. You could eat off the engine, it was so clean. Of course when I got the car, it got headers, duals and a 4bbl carb. When I went into the USMC in 90, I bought a "sensible" car for gas mileage, and left the Maverick at home. My father took it upon himself to sell it (he thought I wouldn't still want it with the new car and all).

I've had quite a few hot rods throughout my adult life, but few were as fun (or as fast) as the ol' red Maverick. I've always told myself I'd get another. Well, a friend of mine just gave me a rebuilt 302, so I figured I better find a place to put it. I spotted a couple Mavericks on Ebay that I'm trying to chase down. The catch is, I only want a 1970. The reason for that is because the local car show (the James Dean car show, happening right now!), has a cut-off date on cars, and it's 1970. For the past 4 years, I have never seen one single Maverick at the show... I wanna be the first next year.

So wish me luck on one of the Ebay Mavericks! I am dead-committed to finding a 70 Maverick to bring back what I lost 14 years ago! And thanks for having me aboard!

    Welcome.

You must not be too far from me....as I have spent the entire weekend at James Dean/Ducktails.

The Ducktail show will allow up to 1972! :)

    So where you from?

I live right in Fairmount... 3 blocks from the park (car show) and 4 blocks from town (where the rides and stuff were). I wish I would have found this site sooner, I could have hooked you up with free parking! I did Dean Days friday and half of saturday, then spent the other half and sunday at Ducktail in Gas City. I think Gas City had the better show (again) this year. Fairmount is really shooting themselves in the leg with some of their rules (i.e. nothing allowed above 70, no camping next to your swap meet booth, etc).

I didn't have a car ready this year, but a buddy of mine had his silver 70 Chevelle at both shows. Next year I hope to have my 68 Nova ready, and with a little luck, a Maverick!

I bought my current Maverick project (1972 Grabber) in Fairmount!!! Bought it back in 1998. The guy lived right in downtown Fairmount next to the grocery.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I'm sure there is a Maverick with my name written on it... it's finding it that will be the key. After I find one, I'll have to figure out which ones of you have the parts with my name on them. :D

I told my best friend that I was actively looking for an engineless Maverick, and he kinda got excited too (we used to tear up the streets in mine a while back). Back when I had mine, everyone was putting 350's in Monzas and Vegas. Those are cool, but they just don't have the mini-Mustang fastback look of the Maverick. I just can't decide if I'd rather have a Grabber hood or a scoop like the Comet GT (my buddy is tring to talk me into putting the scoop on a grabber hood, but I don't know how that would look). I don't want a real Grabber, because I'd like to leave the real ones for those who would restore them properly. I'd rather do a "semi-clone resto-mod" type deal. That way, I don't have to worry about what I'm doing to the value of the real deal.

Craig, I know your Maverick pretty well! My question is, how did you talk him into selling it? I tried talking the guy out of it for years, and he'd never come off of it. That thing's been around Fairmount since I was a kid!

Joey...................he called me!!! Out of the blue about a week before James Dean in 1998 this guy calles me after I ran an ad offering Maverick parts for sale. I had never seen the car before. I went over and looked at it. It smoked very badly...and would only more in reverse.....but it was a solid Arkansas car. I bought it on the spot.
