I need the experts to help me out. I have an original 72 comet that has been in my family since 1974. It is in nearly perfect condition. Always covered and stored. It has 28,000 original miles on the 302. Some hop ups were made by original owner. Headers and a couple other engine mods. I am rebuilding the engine right now, sat to long. I have some minor cosmetic fixes that i need to do to make it perfect. It has a beautiful matalic green (dark) paint job. I plan on running through barret-jackson in a year or two. My question is what might this car go for? I need to get some ideas so i can decide wether to make it my sunday driver (more pony's) or to leave it original and sell it. Thanks for anybodies input.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Maverick/Comets aren't big in the collector world. But there was one once in that auction. I can't remember what it sold for, but it was like 22 or 25 thousand. Which is crazy numbers. EDIT: I was WAY off the numbers.

A nice 70's Comet went across the block a few years back only selling for 13,000 if I recall correctly :)

It is not cheap to run a car thru Barrett-Jackson in Arizona.

I only know what I hear during the broadcast and that is the seller pays B/J 10% of the selling price and so does the buyer. I'm sure there are high entry and registration fees also.

Ill get a couple of pics on the way. The only comit i could find close to mine sold for 13,000 for a 1974 with 43,000 miles on it but had been repainted and had the 289 in it. It looked ok but nothing special.
As far as running through barret jackson i know the price is high and i stand to loose money unless it sells for a good amount. I dont think there is a original comit of this calaber anywhere and it would take the right person to realize the value. As in auctioning anything like this.
I think i need the feedback from somebody that is real familiar with values of comets mavericks (not the super well known rods) that are in this kind of condition. Keep the post coming. I appriciate everyones thoughts.

Just remember that B/J is a "no reserve" auction.

If it tops out a low 4,000, you're commited no matter what.

Was that 13,000 Comet that sold at B/J blue?

Original Un-Restored Mavericks & Comets, don't a have large collector following. There was a Maverick on Ebay recently, that spend almost all it's life in a car museum, and I don't think it sold. (I've lost the link)
I once found a 74 Maverick that had less than 5000 miles on it, and it had the paperwork to prove it, it was plain jane, and not worth the 2500 they were asking at the time, and I doubt if I had it today, it would be anything more than a solid base to build an awesome Hot Rod.
Modified, or restored cars seem to bring better money, and they are road ready.
Unless your car is in impeccable condition, it won't be accepted at Barrett Jackson.

    Here's a link to the B/J one:

Unfortunately our Mavericks & Comets are only worth, what someone is willing to pay for them. I would never expect to get the amount, I put into mine. Then again, I got mine to be different. Restored it the way I wanted & use it, as a daily driver. Drive them & enjoy them while you can. We don't live forever. Love the looks I get & the thumbs-up. Lets me know my labor was well spent, on something you don't see often. Our cars don't get the respect they deserve. Oh, well! Dare to be different...
