I have a 73 maverick with factory ac, my question is, does the side vents suppost to blow cool air or those vents for heater only. My ac is not working yet but when I turn ac on only center vent blows air. I would appreciate any help.

Yes...the side vents should also blow cold air.

There is a possibility the diverter door in the dash vent is not operating and diverting cold air to the side vents. It's possible the vac motor that op's the door is not working. It may the vac hose is not hookup, has a hole in it or the vac motor is gone south. I wud ck the vac motor. I just did a rehab on my heater/ac box and made sure all three vac motors were workin b4 I re-installed the box. I had to replace one motor - It's a lot easier if the box is out. The reason I took the box out is to install new heater core; while in the process I had AC coil tested.
Anyway, in ur case I just thk the vac may be the problem.

also make sure the air supply hoses that connect to the center vent/def diverter assembly are connected

Is there a website where I can get a diagram of the ac vent area?

I don't know. I have a DVD Master from Forel Publishing that covers 73-79 Ford cars and has 6,114 pages. It has been very useful in my work efforts.
I don't recall what I paid for it, but whatever it was - it was worth it to me.
Maybe some of the other folks here w/ much more exp and knowledge than I will come in and help u with this issue. I wud send u a pix, but I think this DVD has some kind of protection.
