hey everyone, i have an opportunity to pick up a 73 bronco 9 inch rear for 100 bucks. it has a 3.50 gear and is an open diff. if i get it ill be putting in a posi of some sort and some gears. will this rearend be a problem to put in my 72 maverick? i was gonna stick with the 8 inch 4 lug but with an offer like this, i dont think i can pass it up.
The spring puches will need to be cut off and a set of new ones (Summit about $15.00 ) will need to be welded on . Bronco axles have the perches on top ...and for your Maverick they need to be on the bottom. I think the width will be Okay though.
The '66 - '77 Bronco rearend, with drum brakes, has a wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface width of 58 inches. The Macverick 8" rear has a mounting surface width of 56 1/2 inches. That's 3/4 inch longer on each side. No problem. As M.A.V. said, the spring perches have to be moved. The Bronco's spring perches are 36 inches apart; the Mav is 43 inches. I've bought two Bronco housings recently. I have one set of 31 spline axles. I need another pair of axles and another pumpkin. I'm looking forward to one going in my Mav I'm building for street/strip and one int my Mav I'm building for strip only. Everything I've read on the truck and Bronco forums tell me that this is a great swap and upgrade.
