Hey everybody I'm a newbie here and a new Maverick owner, and everything in my Maverick is stock. My engine is 250 inline 6. long story short, I'm bored with it, I have found a ton of 302's and not one 289 where I live. I just need some info on the two, which is better, more reliable, ease of finding parts, stuff like that, Thanks.
302,preferably 87 and up roller block youll just need the 157tooth 50oz. balance flexplate for it to bolt up to your transmission and have the right balance for your engine.
remember the 289 is the same block, in the 68 up run they started toying with it to make more power and displacement. that is when the 302 was sent into production. if you are able to get a roller block as stated above that is a great way to go...
Welcome! 302, it will be much easier finding the correct brackets and pulleys (4 bolt damper). Just take note of the year 302 you get so you can get the correct balance flywheel/flexplate. Contact Mike, Yellow75 here on the forum he is not far from you and may have what you are looking for.
No doggin here,my first car was a 65 stang with a 289.Loved that thing, ive had some good luck with the roller blocks though I was just giving him my opinion.
289 and 302 block is not the same. The 63-64 289's have a 5 bolt bellhousing whereas the 66-67 have 6 bolts. The pivot boss for the z-bar disappeared in '75. The 302's have longer cylinder skirts than a 289.
sounds like a decent price if it is running currently, if not be careful because i have seen many a "rebuildale running block" that was a boat anchor once the heads and pan were removed
yes, different skirts, but skirts aren't part of the block. All i am saying is all the internals and externals are interchangeable, therefore they are the same.....ya know what im saying
You answered your own question when you said you found a ton of stuff for the 302 and nothing for the 289.
