Crazy Larry is correct. An aluminum spacer will do next to nothing to insulate the carb. Try a composite, it could be an inexpensive remedy.

Is this a flat tapper or roller? Looks like it compensates on the exhaust by increasing the duration instead of the lift.
Is your carb spacer plastic, composite, aluminum?
I had the same problem with the 302. I picked up a composite carb spacer from Summit to insulate the carb from the intake, and it solved the problem.
