2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 and DIESEL!

420 ft/lbs torque, tows 7400 lbs, and 720 miles per tank!

Anyone heard anything good or bad about the new 3.0 Ecodiesel?

Getting it for the wife for Christmas. (almost) Fully decked out. Her first new car ever. She is amped...

My first 4X4 and my first diesel. Test drive was really nice...

I heard it is going into the dodge half-tons soon. Kinda wish it was turbo-diesel, though...Not sure what I would do with around 600 ft/lbs...

It is a turbo diesel scoop. As long as you have warranty a diesel is great. Oil changes are pricey though as well as the initial diesel option price.

Yes, I just looked it up and it is a turbo diesel.

If it wasn't diesel, I would be getting the 5.7 hemi, and this is only 1000 over that. And will last twice the mileage of the hemi.

Burning 1/2 qt of oil every 1000 miles in my hemi, after 250,000 miles. Not complaining, just saying...

Will swap in a new motor in the next year or two.

I'd go for the Hemi. Diesels are nice....till they break. The diesel Libertys put a huge dent and many peoples bank accounts.

    diesel...
fuel and maintenance cost out weigh the longevity of their gas counterpart...JMO
also depends on how much truck you need.

250,000 miles..."Burning 1/2 qt of oil every 1000 miles in my hemi."
not bad if it's paid for...:thumbs2:

Not indestructible. The troubles are typically not the engine itself. We just put both pumps on a Cummins and it was $5000. Recently we had another Cummins the got fuel in the oil and took out lower end brgs. $12,000 estimate to start. The guy traded.

These new 3.0Ls aren't proven yet and I'm personally leary of any new Chrysler technology seeing the issues first hand at the shop.

Let me just say if you do want one, get all the warranty you can including a Max Care service contract. I'm not sure about the diesels in Jeeps, but I think the base powertrain warranty is 5/100,000.

Remember diesel fuel is now more expensive than gas plus many new diesels also require DEF fluid which is higher than the fuel.

We are getting the Mopar extended warranty, for nothing else than as mentioned above...I don't trust any first-year technology.

Gas price is not an issue. This thing goes forever on a single 24 gallon tank. The DEF lasts for about 10000 miles per tank, maybe 3 gallons or so. 40 cents per gallon extra, and this thing gets an easy 30 miles to the gallon, more on the highway.

Well, it came time to actually pay for the extended warranty, and when I started to talk with the dealer, it was only $1000 more for LIFETIME warranty on all mechanical parts! So I did that. A/C, trans, engine, rear, transfer case, all of it, lifetime warranty.

Sounds like a safe bet to me. I typically own my cars at least 10 years, so any one or more of those are bound to go out during my ownership, and any one of those could meet or exceed the price of the extended warranty.

Those forever warranties usually come with maintenance stipulations. Make sure you follow those.

I bought one of those drivetrain warrantys once, used car tough. When the trans went out they would not cover it because I didn't have a history of maintenance.

Hopefully he got a Chrysler Service Contract plan. It's just like factory warranty. No BS like those crooked independent contract companies.

Grand Cherokees are very nice. They will enjoy it I'm sure.

Yes, it is a MOPAR warranty, not an independent. They told me to just keep my receipts on oil changes, etc. It should be fine when/if it comes to needing any repairs.
