What year is my trans? Here is a picture of the valve body numbers. The case is a 1971. I already determined that. I just need/want to know what year the trans is. This trans has the screw in modulator, not the pressed in one. It has the spring and valve under the trans filter tab also. Danford1
I understand that... What does the brass tag number represent? What year did they start using push in modulators? I'm thinking this is a 1972 trans but want to know for sure ... Danford1
The valve body was cast in '71 but has a '72 engineering number, next year parts are often used in late model production... My '72 Comet 302 has a '73 intake that was cast approx same time as block so is no doubt orig... There's a good video on YouTube discussing C4 valve bodies but I don't remember anything about the trans it's self... BTW a partial stamping of the orig vehicles VIN will be on top of case near bellhousing, if it's orig will match your car...
Yeah...from what I've read...if there's a tag attached to the Servo Cover, then that's the number you have to use, to do the usual decoding of the vehicle this tranny originally was for. (for instance a D2ZP would be a 72' Mustang Auto tranny) The number you listed on your casting was supposedly just for the lower valve body, and the same one was used from the early 70's to the late 70's. Here is a link that shows some other numbers to cross reference on C4/C5's: http://mmerlinn.tripod.com/trans/fdc4f/fbec4_s0.htm Maybe this helps.
This trans is not from my car. It is an old one a friend gave me years ago and it has been sitting around. I now have a good candidate for it. Thanks. Danford1
