just bought my first car and first maverick!! Sadly though the speedometer Light is out and it is impossible to drive it at night! If anyone could please tell me how to fix or check what the problem with it is that would be great!

    thanks, Jakob

    :Welcome: from Northeast Pennsylvania

Some of your gauge lights might just be burned out - they are installed through the back of the gauge cluster through twist out black plastic holders :tiphat:

ok I removed the screws holding the gages and the glass and plastic in but it still wont pull out? Is there anything else I need to do to pull them out?

Did you check the fuse??? There is a very short 5A in the fuse block on the firewall(just above your left foot) that powers the dash lights... Also it's common for the resistor on the dimmer to be corroded, spinning it back and forth 8-10 times usually cleans them till they function again...

If they are all out problem probably isn't bulbs,(there are three for general illumination, plus one in the transmission quadrant)...

It's been a long time since I removed my gauge cluster but I believe the speedo cable might be stopping you from pulling the cluster out. Try looking up under the dash with a light and see if you can see those black plastic bulb holders. They just twist out and the bulb pushes in the holder. You might luck out if you can reach the one that is out :)

It sounds like he is only talking about the light behind his speedometer, not all of the dash lights :)

If the other side of the instrument panel is lighting, then you have either a bad socket or connection in the printed circuit feeding the socket...

    Welcome from Redondo Beach, CA!
Probably the fuse on the fuse panel, mine went out before and I lost all my dash lights!
