As I'm coming out of the grocery store, a guy that was standing by his car yells at me Him: "Is that a Datsun?" Me: "Uh, no. It's a '73 Ford Maverick" Him: "Oh yeah, baby!" As odd as that was, it got me wondering, have you guys had your Mavericks or Comets mistaken for any other kind of car?
Camaro, Vega, Pinto , Mustang...yep, pretty much any car built between 1965 and 1980 can be miraculously substituted for a Maverick. The only car they can't remember from that time period is "Maverick". You're not alone...get used to having to explain to people just what your car is.
You just tell them it's VERY rare and only made less than 50... Yeah, I'm laying in wait for my first victim once I get mine on the road...
Mine says Comet GT on the sides in big orange letters, no one has ever noticed them. I always get, gee that's a cool Maverick, didn't know they made them like that. And then inevitably their sister had a Grabber in high school.
Glad to hear I'm not alone! Hahaha Another observation I've made about owning these cars: Younger guys all say that they're garbage. Older guys who were actually around when these cars came out all say they were great little cars.
I had someone ask me if it was a Mustang, but never a Datsun. Someone would have to be pretty clueless about cars to think it was a Datsun.
I get a lot of people who have no idea what it is until they see the "maverick" badges and then cant figure out the make without a emblem.
mine was a...one car car show...yesterday at a gas station I stopped at on the way to the swap meet. I was sitting at the pumps with the hood, trunk and drivers door open. everyone that was looking had a Mav/Comet in their family at one time.... by the way...it took best in show...
