I have about 10.5 to 1 compression on my 347 and just picked up a Vortech S trim. I don't want to run race gas so I if I want to use the S trim E85 is my other option. I've heard good things online but no real world experience. I have to send out the carb for the blow they set up so getting it ready for E85 should not be too much more $. It will be a weekend car and I have an E85 station about 10 min away.
main thing is get the carb built for E85. 10.5:1 will do ok, but e-85 likes more compression like 12.1(EDIT) Just Reread Vortec S trim..so ignore the compression statement as I thought you were N/A for an alternative to racegas I think its a great option due to price difference. Bad thing about E-85 is it can sludge up your engine with green jelly and ive also seen like black gunk. This has been resolved with the newest oil Formulation, but they have heavy calcium consentration in the detergents.. Our engines need ZDDP, calcium not good Other solution is make sure oil is at about 180 degress prior to engine shutdown. If car sits either drain E-85 gas out for reg gas or buy some E-85 Stabilizer
Car will see a lot of street time, it's a 58cc head on flat tops. It might be closer to 10.8 but I'm rounding down. It's definitely going to sit some time. Boost should be no more than 9 lbs.
that's why hes getting a carb built for E-85 if his rubber lines are somewhat recent he wont have to worry about that either really
All fuel lines will be swapped out with e85 friendly lines, carb has to be sent out for the blow thru and e85 set up.
if its hard-line use anodized aluminum or SS as they are best for e-85..if flexible line uses a conductive line with teflon...not rubber lining so you wont end up with gas smell or slight leaks over time.
why do you need blow through carbs? my engine builder said I dont need blow through carbs for my set up. IM not sure what the CR will be just yet (we were talking 9 to 1 maybe 10 to 1 when I was shooting for 500hp out of an old stock block) but Im going to run two quick fuel carbs with a root? style super charger on my 363 stroker. I know we were discussing the amount of boost was going to be around 20lbs or more I will also be running e85 since its less than half the price of race gas. the nearest shell station that carries that fuel is 10 minutes away. I havent even thought of checking the chevron right down the street from me.
Just like a turbo setup you dont need blowthrough and can go draw through..but blow through usually makes more power, easier to tune and is referenced also the floats wont collapse under pressure also your using roots blower, you wont need blowthrough as root type S/c are linear in fuel demand so drawthrough works well..but in a centrifical s/c it acts similar to a turbo, blowthrough/boost referense Fuel pressure Regulator is the way to go
also dont forget to get a good E-pump and a boost referenced FPR Fuel system are the most important components to a forced inducted system
Vortech S trim centrifugal supercharger. It's going to be carbureted using a carb hat and 6-9 lbs of boost. As for the line I think most of the big name manufacturers sell a teflon lined ss hose.
From what I've read with my hp (450-500 rwhp) estimate an aeromotive a1000 pump will do the job and an aeromotive 13202 FPR
curious does that flow through like a cold air intake pipe? and attach to the top of the carb? covering the whole thing eliminating the need of an air cleaner on top of the carb? sorry for the questions. I hope Im not hijacking just curious about your set up since youre going to run e85
