Nick, I tried to make your "hood hinge spring" idea work on mine, BUT, I decided I didnt like the pressure that was being put on the hinges from the springs, so I canned that idea for myself, and did the only other thing I could think of. On my last Mav, I used struts to raise my hood, so I did that once again on my latest Mav, but I did them the way I shoulda done on my last Mav. I really liked your idea with the springs, but to me this turned out a little simpler, not as clean as yours, but it does the trick.
Yeah, I will get that to you tomorrow, they are either from a 93 Crown vic, or a 2000 crown vic, just not certain, but I have it written down on the strut.
Yes they are from a 2000 Crown Vic, the part# at autozone is E95918, but I did see some on ebay....http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-11-Crown...ria&hash=item20d0781a26&vxp=mtr#ht_2512wt_909
I can do that later today, the struts compress into themselves a little as the hood is closed, and they are angled to allow them to swivel with the movement of the hinge.
Do they work well in assisting the hood when you open it like SUV rear hatch rods do? I'm going to be doing this to a trunk lid that has a Grabber spoiler mounted on it and was wondering
Yes, they start lifting the hood at about half open and hold strong at the top. These that I have in the pic are from a junkyard, and probably half wore out, so I imagine a new one would even be stronger and might start lifting sooner.
ok, here is an action sequence(kinda)of the hood going down....... http://mmb.maverick.to/attachment.p...ent.php?attachmentid=60970&stc=1&d=1372733211
And then a full open position and the point at which the (worn out)struts take over to push the hood open. http://mmb.maverick.to/attachment.p...ent.php?attachmentid=60972&stc=1&d=1372733428
