I was going to replace the idler arm on my 73 with power steering.I was wondering If I have to press in the idler arm bushing?
I pounded mine in with a hammer and used a socket that fit over the rubber part and rested on the metal part of the bushing. Make sure you clean the inside of the piece you're installing it into real good with some fine sandpaper and then put a little grease on it before you install it.
the bushing in your pic looks bigger round and shorter than the one in the idler arm. it may be just an optical illusion. it looks like the shoulder goes on the top so it would be pressed in from the top of the idler arm
Its the Moog idler arm bushing I got a raybestos one as well and theyre both identical. Old bushing Is this the right way? Or this way?
Do I need to hammer it in until the metal sits on the centerlink?.Ive been pounding for the last 2 hours and this is where Im at
You would probably get a better strike if you placed a socket or piece of pipe over the rubber part. A nice 3 or 5 pound hammer would be nice too.
I have a socket that fits right over it ive been pounding..I used the old idler arm couple washers and I used the impact gun and that's as far as it went
