I've read lots of info, but none that give me 100% confidence on what I need to do. First off, my application: 351, B&M SS AOD, Edelbrock carburetor, aftermarket floor shifter with cable. First thing, I read almost exclusively about using the "Lokar TV cable". However, there are several Lokar TV cables available. I think there are 2 basic options: Lokar Hi-Tech Kickdown Kits KD2AODHT (Braided jacket) Lokar Hi-Tech Kickdown Kits KD-2AODU (Black plastic jacket) There3 a variances with anodized this and polished that, and Summit lists a 60" and 72" option which I assume is not needed. I think I am straight on this part and will be going with the standard length HT. Next, I am quite confident that I need an Edelbrock specific TV cable corrector kit to achieve the correct cable movement range between idle throttle position and WOT. Here is where it gets iffy ... I have read that the Lokar cable has a spring on it that is too weak and needs to be stiffened up to assure that when you let off the throttle the cable will fully return to idle position. My thought is that the spring needs to be strong enough to get the job done and anything more than that will simply be adding to the force required to push the accelerator pedal, but won't be a problem otherwise. (YES/NO???) Assuming I have this part right, does anyone have a part specific solution to offer, else I will wing it to meet this need. Lastly, it is not clear to me, but I think I am "supposed" to also get a bracket to mount the cable at the throttle cable bracket (or replace it?). I have also read that the bracket you can get from Lokar is weak and can have flexing issues. Alternately, I read that Ryan just drilled a hole in the factory throttle cable bracket. I like this approach for simplicity and $$$. Any objections to this solution or other solution top offer? To summarize what I plan to do: Use Lokar cable KD2AODHT Use an Edelbrock carb specific TV cable corrector As required, increase spring tension (final solution TBD) Drill hole in existing throttle cable bracket to mount carb end of cable Please let me know what I may have missed, or is wrong, or what would be better. This is what I just got thanks to the help of 71 gold http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lok-kd2aodht http://m.summitracing.com/parts/lok-srk-4000 Hope this helps
I like my approach. drill hole in throttle cable bracket. the hol at the bottom of the edelbrock throttle linkage was a perfect fit for that end. and there was already a spring on for the throttle so it worked fine pulling the both throttle and TV cable back to idle. the main thing that you need to get right is the throttle valve pressure. You need a oil pressure gauge to get it right. I forget the specs and what rpm to set it at. but you plumb a gauge into the trans at a port near the coolant lines. then set the pressure by adjusting tension on the cable. I would ask B&M what pressure and at what rpm they reccomend setting their trans at.
I think part of the confusion with what I am reading is that Lokar has modified there kit but not the P/N. Here are 2 current ebay listings with the same Lokar P/N ... but they ain't the same thing http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lokar-KD-2A...Parts_Accessories&hash=item53f12e883a&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Lokar-K...Parts_Accessories&hash=item589f91a9c6&vxp=mtr The second one is what I assume is the newer kit.
you know you can't compare pictures...you would need to order both to see the real difference... or like I do, go to Summit and have them pull both...
