I'm still babying it it only has about 900mi on the new buld. The pistons are really tight to the cylinders, I put a lot of cash into the buld, I'm going to wait till 1500 befor romping on to
I hear ya. Just be sure you talk to the engine builder(if it's you.. don't talk to yourself when others are around or they'll think you're bonkers).. and know what the rec'd ring seating procedure/run in time is. Loaded under light throttles with an ocassional zing into the midrange when she's all warmed up works pretty well for most. Climbing steeper hills in higher gears works excellent(if you have an automatic.. and adjustable modulator works well for adjusting out soem amount of premature kickdown. The reason that I mention that is because.. and you may very well know this already.. all bore finish/clearance/piston and ring types will have various "best practice" techniques to most effectively seat the rings. Some can even be contrary to the old "baby it for the first 500 or so".. and if not done correctly.. can cause improper initial seating which can be tough to regain once the rings have not taken a set in the bore. Not a lecture at all.. just helful friendly advice from some "school of hard knock" lessons and seeing many others with ring seal issues. Even the pro's still run into issues on ocassion so it's far from simple with some combo's. Running extra zinc additives for the first couple of oil changes gives extra margin for error and never seems to hurt anything either. That's basically how I'm breaking it in, my son and I did the build ourselves last spring. We put in Keith black 10.7 compression pistons with chromoly rings. I'm just being extra cautious. Steeped on it a bit, tried to keep it under 5O00 rpm just finished a new paint job yesterday, but ill start a new post on that ,I've Ben bogarting this guys post to much lol
Well, there's chrome rings and there's moly-faced rings, but not chromoly. If they are moly-faced they were probably seated about 10 seconds after you started the engine.
