Maybe the guy was worried about liability issues by welding on a vehicle.

That was actually my first thought. He figured if it ever broke and I got hurt, he would be liable.

But just come out and say it, maybe even draw up an agreement where i could never come back at him. Something.

I think it only works that way in peoples heads. I'm pretty certain Judge Judy would tell you it's your car, you're liable for it. Independent contractors are only liable inside the contracted warranty period. Which I would be safe to say would be a zero second warranty.

Either he knows how to weld or he has been lucky with his tacking.. Maybe he didn't want to be found out..

Yea I'm always iffy on this sort of thing. I prefer to go with a friend of a friend who will do the work for 50 bucks and a six pack sort of deal. Or someone who will give a reasonable warranty period, and has a business license. That is really the key for me if I'm paying premium prices, business license.

I been in business for about 12 years and my business liscence, if you call it that, has expired. I registered for the business name and had ins for the first about three years. I realized that the couple of dmages created during the processess ss of what I do were so small I just repaired them myself. Cut sprinkler line or broken planter pot.. I know there are other unforseen possibilities and I should have ins, but they gouge you nowadays. Therefore now I do little of what might have greater liabilities. I make sure I approve any work my helpers do and then have a signature that I am not liable at any time during work or even after. Claims are for warranty repairs only. Luckily I have had only the two small incidences in the begining, a sprinkler line and a flower pot that fell.. I grew up learning safety first and I apply that to everything I do especially where the customer is concerned. I applaud Scott for thinking about the safety aspect.

I'm not trying to say anything bad about anyone here, I just prefer to do business with places that keep their license up to date (or have one at all). I've been burned a few times by bad contracted labor.

Personally I think Insurance is a scam, and just more feeding into people not taking responsibility for their own actions.

Anyway this has gone off the rails a bit, I don't want to get anyone heated up over anything.
