Hay I am new to this forum and I just got a 76 maverick. In line v6 250 with a one barrel Carb. I have noticed that the carb is leaking from all the gaskets so I want to rebuild it but I am having trouble identifying the Carb to go buy a kit. The number on the Carb is 62253 carter. I've never done this before so any help is welcomed. Thanks mandy

Have you tried ordering a kit using the Carter number that you have? Years ago, I would rebuild my own carbs. The instructions were pretty easy to follow and a Chilton book helped. The main thing is to have a way to clean off of the parts. I remember buying a carb cleaner kit the size of a Crisco can that had a little basket for soaking small parts in. It also helps to know someone you can have double-check what you've done or help with adjustments. Most counter men these days never saw a carb so the carb experts are dwindling. :)

That is a Carter YF - very easy to rebuild and the kit can be bought at any parts house for around $15.

As mentioned earlier - there is a gallon size can of gunk parts cleaner that comes with a little parts basket and will allow you to soak all the parts for a few days.

Or, you can buy a rebuilt carb for around $100 and just bolt it on. If buying a carb make sure it has the bigger bore for the 200, as there is a smaller version for the 170.
