Making progress on the car, the next step is all of the dashboard and related bits.

My windshield wiper assembly is a little worn. Are there any kits, grommets, etc to refresh the linkages a bit?

I have several complete assemblies if you are interested. $50 + shipping.

Mine work, but they rattle, have slack in the joints, etc.

I guess that should have been my first comment. Is there any way to quieten this down, is all this racket normal?

Both of my 74 Comets did it, but they were both old when I got them.

    Another wiper question.

I seem to remember a round grommet, very loose, that went through the cowl to help seal. There is also a gasket that goes between the wiper and the cowl.

Anyone know where to get the grommet, maybe even the gasket?

I've still got my original gaskets, pretty good shape, but I'd like a backup.

Just about any Mustang vendor has the gasket

Nobody has the wiper shaft seal (the round grommet). You will have to find used.

    I still have them, somewhere...

    How important are they?

You should only have one...on the driver's side only. Not vitally important, but I would suggest getting one for it eventually.

Grommet won't fit through the hole.

Fordmaster169, I may get up with you about the wiper assembly.

How hard are they to replace with the dash installed?

The grommet will fit in the hole with the assembly removed. The wiper assembly is probably the single most difficult thing to replace in your car with the dash installed. It is not impossible but it is difficult. Let me know if you want the assembly.

I tried the grommet without the wiper assembly. It wouldn't go in the hole. I forced it in and it twisted it enough that there was no way to get the wiper through the hole.

Are there any differences over the years?

I don't know what year the donor car was that the cowl came from.

If you have the correct grommet, and the wiper assembly is removed out of the hole, then the grommet should easily go in.

As far as removing the entire wiper assembly. It can be done with dash in place, but it is a "chore". That is why when somebody comes to my house and wants me to change theirs in the car, and they are going to watch....I charge money. About any other job I would do as a "buddy"....but wiper assemblies are not much fun.

The grommet came out of my original cowl. I don't know if it was the original grommet or not.

It will not go back in the replacement cowl.

I'm going to pull the wiper assembly and make a teflon sleeve to try and take the slop out of it. I'll fiddle with the grommet again then.

'Not saying this is the cause of your particular problem, but years ago the cause of sloppy wipers on my Maverick was loose mounting bolts (I think there are 3) for the wiper motor.
