It may or may not be. That just seems really cheap for a distributor....Personally i would buy from NAPA or Rock Auto if going stock.
Well I don't mind spending money on a good distributor I dont want to replace another distributor any time soon so whats my best option?
a rebuilt points distributor is a pretty hard thing to get wrong. usually its the electronics that give problems with these. sense your swapping out the points with your pertonix i wouldnt have much hesitation about getting an inexpensive rebuilt one.
Listen to the man. X 2 on this Spending $200-$300 on a fancy aftermarket distributor is a massive waste of money for 95% of applications. Pertronix in a reman distributor = simple, cheap, and it works. Fire it with the matching Flamethower coil and a set of Ford Racing 9MM wires on a large post type cap
Good to know..I will be using the same coil meanwhile and then ill probably upgrade to a better one.I should be installing the distributor on Monday,while I'm at it I am going to replace all my platinum spark plugs with copper plugs and I got MSD 9MM wires so Ill be good on those.
Today I tried switching out the distributors.Everything went fine until I came across the magnetic sleeve that sits under the rotor.On my old one the sleeve sits perfect without an issue and on the new distributor the sleeve does not sit properly it doesn't look like it locks in like it does on my old one and since this doesn't sit right I can't get the rotor to fit properly neither.I ended up taking the distributor back to the parts store since I thought it was the wrong one but it was the right one.The guy mentioned shaving the bottom of the rotor however the sleeve doesnt even lock in so I don't see how shaving the bottom of the rotor would help.Did anyone else encounter this problem when trying to install Pertronix on a stock distributor?
Yes. I searched on the issue and found an answer. Can't remember what it was though but it was really simple. Do some searches on bing or something you should find it.
Well I went back to Oreillys and and according to the guy he believes it wasnt put together properly at the factory.The breaker cam or whatever the magnetic sleeve rides on is sitting way to high.I was thinking of pressing it down 1/8 of an inch but its welded on.They also had the Petronix Ignitor 1 in store so I tried on the magnetic sleeve on my new distributor thinking maybe my sleeve was bad but it was the same results.So the guy ordered a Remanufactured Dist. and another new Dist. and he will take a look at them tomorrow and try on the sleeve on both of them.
I've always though the breaker cam was integral with the shaft, could be the shaft's incorrectly installed in the body.
