Someone set me straight, lord knows I need it. I have noticed looking through salvaged cars of all the earlier models (69.5-72) that the interior panels on the doors are mostly all blk, or whatever interior color the car had and plain, and the door rests are the short/small ones. What is the interior style called that has the wood-like grain with the larger L shaped,if you will, arm rests? Those are also found in Torinos and Mustangs of the same years if anyone is looking. Again I know the later 73 n up models had the Mustang II style arm-rest that had the diagonal pull attached to the rest. I'm not talking about the those, only the 70-72s. Thanks, just trying to learn more about these beasts.
Wood grain is 73 & Up Deluxe door panels, but some 72 LDO's have the long arm rest, as found in the later years.
My 72..."The never ending build project"...Has the wood grain panels with the long arm rests and chrome bases...Sort of a delux interrior but not an LDO car.
In 1972 that would have also been considered the deluxe interior. My pictures from above is a 1971 deluxe interior.
I thought all 72's had the wood grain and 71's had the woven vinyl inserts in the door panel. I never saw a 72 without the wood grain.
I have faux woodgrain in the door panel in my 72 Maverick with the long armrests? and armrest mounted inside door handle. I'm assuming it's considered the "deluxe" interior. My 72 Comet had the LDO interior with the door pull type armrests and the inside door handle mounted lower and forward in the door panel but no woodgrain, I assume the LDO's had the same sewn in pattern. It did have a woodgrain plaque on the RH side of the dash though.
The LDO's had the same door panel all the years available, there were just two color options for them too and they were LDO specific. Also the Wood inset on the dash was on all LDO cars. It was part of the luxury package.
What a conversation that started. Very Interesting . . . said with a heavy German accent l on Laugh In. lol I have the same door panel as posted by Mav Man in the above. However when I look at the other pic, the arm rest appears to be the short ones? or is that just the angle?
So is there a set standard used then with a so called style option that a person would request. I heard a lot in the above--anyone have their purchase sheet from back in the day that would tell us what that was?
So its a deluxe package then. I like the 71's better than the wood grain look! All the 71/72s Ive seen dont have the deluxe then at all. Interesting--what else would have then been a part of the deluxe package--just the panels or was that something attached with the bucket seats too?
