dash mod. pictures needed please

I am looking for ideas on how to create a gauge cluster for my 75 mav. I have the gauges ( dolphin 4 in 1, and a speedometer) but I want some ideas on how to mount them in the stock locations, BUT not using the factory plastic. what have you done? any pictures would be very much appreciated.

 

i have only started and mine is a bit harder because i am playing with a factory speedo but if you use a 4-1 and a after market speedo this may work
i am working on filling the angled corners now and the extra holes in the top are just to try differant angles. i am going to make a small box to go over the speed o to give it a round opening and hide the lights for night time. i know the cuts are not straight but maybe after i get it put together i can draw up a stamped out version that mostly only needs to be folded

dan what gauges are those? look very nice. I am actually thinking about doing same thing but haven't started on gauges. was going to get 4 in 1 and then tac/speedo combo for the other side.

I bent this up out of steel to fit exactly as the stock plastic bezel had. You can see that I also welded the ashtray, headlight and wiper switch holes up.
I made the lower panel to fit tight around the IDIDIT tilt steering column as well. In that lower panel you can now see where the switches will go on the
left side of the column, and on the right will be the ignition and the radio.





And here we can see the entire dash in primer and bolted in the car checking for fit. I love the way the entire set of six gauges all sit right in front of me now.
The indicator above the gauges houses the turn signals, engine light, electric fan light, driving light indicator and the hi beams as well as the gear selector indicators
for the over drive transmission. The gauges are from New Vintage gauges. They also custom made the indicator strip for me to my specs.
This is something they have stock pieces for, or will make to your specs.

To be honest, not really. I easily have 25 plus hours into this one.

I was starting to wonder what it would cost to have a plug made and have some made in fiberglass. Not sure how much interest there would be in that? If there was enough I would be up for it though.

 

Hey Glenn, any thought about making some more of those lower panels? Id love to replace my package trya with something like that. My stereo would be inthe same place and I could my gauges in that panel too. I have some 2-5/8" gauges already hanging in just to the right of my stereo in the package trap. and I done use my a.c or Ebrake handle. That panel would finish it all off very well, just no skills to do it myself.

Looks like you could easily mount some aftermarket A/C ducts in them too and get rid of the factory ones that wobble all over. This may be the easy ticket to replicate and give us some more options to cutomize, well for those of us with no metal skill.

It's making me re-think my own plan for my dash

 

It was his cluster that got me to make mine. When we had not heard from him in a while I stopped waiting and started fabricating. I was just about done when his son came on and announced he had suddenly passed away. Very talented guy. Glad to see his son finished the car and is enjoying it.

 

the gauges are something like dragon gauge they are a inexpensive gauge on e bay about 20 a piece they had a couple features i was looking for. they are all electric, the faces black out when turned off and they also had a 2 1\16th" tach in the line up. draw backs are no fuel and the temp gauge is in celcius. didn't want to much money involved in case i flopped.

mister car nut nothing personal but right now i should be mad with you. i thought i had something good started even if it was ruff. but then i seen how great yours turned out and felt like i am wasting my time .

gentlemen he is correct if you are working a 1 up prototype it takes for ever i am sure Glen ( hope you don't mind )has more time in then the 25 hours. i have maybe 10 ( slow part is that speedo aftermarket would be a lot easier) but when you look at it you tell your self this shouldn't be so hard if you can come up with a blueprint and a method of production, even if it is in steel with laser/ water jet and pressing or in injection molding

I might consider it over the winter. Right now I am in the thick of a 32 Ford project for someone else. Then I will have time to work on my own cars as well as some fabrication time on a panel if interested.
