Anybody have any experience with these kits? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCAT-SB-FOR...es&hash=item43aa24554d&vxp=mtr#ht_1362wt_1066
no.. but be damned sure to have all that stuff checked out before the install. If I was forced to.. I'd probably take scat over the eagle stuff.. but these cheaper parts can be far from perfectly machined right out of the box. PS. for anything more seriously cammed(rpm)..take those rod bolts out and toss them into the bolt bin... then buy some ARP's to put in their place.
If it is truly SCAT brand (how can you tell for sure?) it should be good quality. They have a great reputation. But that price is pretty good, almost too good. Other places want $1400 or so for that kit.
For another $240 I can get the same kit from Coast High Performance with a 28oz balanced crank. Never heard anything bad about them.
I can add plenty Bad about Coast high performance. Bad oiling crank ended up spinning rod bearings twice before I gave up. Poor customer service when ordering replacement rod and piston. Also whatever stroker kit you buy will need to be balanced as an assembly. Maybe now some come already balanced cranks, rods, pistons, but they didnt back when I bought mine.
My Cleveland when to a local speed shop/engine builder who has been in business since 1970 - they ordered all of my parts direct and checked them out piece by piece before installing them in my engine. The stroker crank and the 6 inch rods were the only thing bought from Scat.
There are issues with these and the other bargain brands all over the net and some corners do get cut on ocassion. Doesn't mean that the part will be out of spec.. or even fail.. just that there are some tradeoffs being made here to get prices down. I've heard enough bad stuff about offshore parts being imported and machined over here(just to be called "american made").. to know well enough to check ALL spec's. IMHO, any remotely serious build should never rely on bulk assembly line machining and be put back on the crank balancer to double check all spec's. I like weights to vary less than 1 gram myself.. but some don't seem to mind a few grams off in either direction.
FlatLander Racing carries Scat rotating assemblies at good prices. $785 for either a 331 or 347 with forged pistons.
In the auction....says price is negotiable. Seller has 100% positive feedback for what that is worth.
My Scat crank came to the engine builder real close to already being in balance but they put it on the balancer anyway, along with a new balancer. They also resurfaced my flywheel and installed a new ring gear. Then everything was balanced as an assembly
I already have a block fresh out of the machine shop, well, about a year ago anyway. Just looking for a rotating kit to stuff it with. I'm more interested in low end torque and reliability than high performance. Gonna be a highway cruiser.
