THe header says it all... Has anyone ever used POR15 Tank sealer? If so was the outcome good and is it worth the price tag? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/POI-FTRK/
Fwiw i searched all tank sealers when i done my sump in mine and bill hirsch tank sealer is the only one that is compatible with ethanol and methanol in higher concentrations. Knowing were already at 10-15% it lets you rest easy.
I did my new tank 5 years ago, I just pulled the sender today, and it still looks like the day I did it. I had to throw the cans of leftover POR 15 out, they had gone rock solid.
I have been trying to put a fuel cell in my car but am tired of messing around with it. I have an old tank that just needs three small pinholes patched and the tank cleaned out and sealed. I'm thinking I'm going to try the Hirsch Sealer. If all else fails I'll go back and put the cell in.
I used the Bill Hirsch kit. Worked just fine. Been 8 years or so now... I have used POR-15 on the rest of my car and it seems to be a good product, but it doesn't handle direct sun well. Not an issue in a gas tank. FYI--I used fish tank rocks in the tank to get the loose rust knocked out. I really wished I had a portable cement mixer to attach the tank to so that it would roll the rocks around. I just shook it by hand for about 3 hours. Maybe 10 lbs of pea gravel looking rocks. Dumped it all out and huge flakes of rust came out. Blew it out with air, then soap/water, and let it dry. Etching primer solution, then the epoxy mix. IF there were any pinholes, the expoxy filled them. Never had a leak, and never seen any other rust since then.
Awesome. I'm going to see if theres anyplace local that carries it tomorrow. If not I'm gonna orders it and get an actual gas tank put back on my car... I would like to one day drive the damn thing...
I got mine here. http://www.hirschauto.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ARK-01 If i did it again, I would order two of the sealers. I am not complaining, it has worked, but I did the inside of the filler tube, etc and would have liked a thicker coating by using two cans.
I used the POR15 tank sealer. I had MANY pin holes in my tank. I took the tank to work and blasted it with a hot pressure washer and soap . Then I put a 2 ft. piece of chain in and rattled it around for a while. Then more soap hose action. Then i filled it with clear water to rinse it out. emptied it and re-filled it . I followed the directions in the packaging to a T. That was 3 years ago and not any sign of a leak. I think it was $100 well spent.
DO NOT GET IT ON YOU! i had it on my ear for 3 weeks everyone kept telling me there was some thing on it i finally pealed it off with a little skin also.
Come on, I had it on my cheek!!! I told the guy selling it at Carlisle, he should be dabbing it on people as they walk by, and in 5 days when it's still on them, they won't think twice about buying some the next time.
I have used th POR-15, for my tank, a couple years ago. I painted the tank inside and out. My tank had 13 pin holes, a couple of them were bigger than pin holes. No leaks, as of today. The precaution lable states that POR-15 CAN NOT be removed by ANY solvent, after it has flashed. Hense, the caution about getting it on your skin.
A 69 mustang tank is a very easy mod, and the 19 gal capacity is a bonus... That is what I put in my 71...
